Innovation-led maturity of the Cleantech industry

Rising awareness of climate change and growing legislation regarding the uninhibited use of fossil fuels across the world had led to emergence of the clean energy technology ("cleantech") industry, and since the early 2000s, this diverse industry with many sub-sectors has evolved and progressed leaps and bounds, with a singular focus on departing from, or at least reducing reliance on, fossil fuels for global energy production. On a global level, innovation in cleantech has been linear. As an industry, long dominated solely by solar/wind energy companies, cleantech has matured into one comprising of companies tackling a range of ecological issues. Consumer demand for environmentally friendly technologies has grown, thereby also creating opportunities for entrepreneurs to develop novel technologies that are cleaner and conserve more energy and resources.
